- The workshop is free, but to stay part of the community you need to participate in the weekly challenges / updates.
- People are responsible for arranging their own tools, some of the tools we explore in the workshop require paid subscriptions. Some scholarships available to help with this in special circumstance.
- The workshop is geared towards creating short stories to submit to NearFi, but there is no requirement to do so.
I'd really like to get people talking about what excites them. Aspects of the future they think are interesting. Any plotlines or characters they've already thought about. New technologies. Climate Apocalypse. At Mars we do this with short presentations. For this workshop I'm thinking to get people to make AI generated images for each of their ideas, and then make a Loom where they talk about each of the ideas for 1-3 minutes. Can have multiple ideas so the whole video can be up to 10 minutes.
In the lead up to the workshop actually starting, I think we can give people this assignment so they can put as much energy into it as they want.
There are two aspects to this I want to cover - AI Tools, and storytelling basics.
AI Tools - In this we can look at prompting, brainstorming, word craft with AI, and a few other topics I need to research.
Storytelling Basics - I would like to get people to establish and develop their world. The characters, the world, the conflict / plot. Your list - style, tone, genre, form, content type.
'Spec driven development' is this idea that with AI setting 'context' is everything. I'm hoping there are parallels with storytelling, and that in the previous weeks we developed much of the context of the stories people want to tell, so that this week we prompt out rough story ideas. It would be nice to talk through what types of output we should shoot for, but I'm hoping this is a very productive week in terms of lines written.
At this point I imagine it being more traditional. People develop their stories. Get feedback on what works. I'm hoping you can drive this, and that it's not too much work.
Maybe we actually have an optional sync video for people to share their experiences.
